Warning Sign: Every day feels like a bad Monday morning. You obsess about work during off-hours. You’re targeted for abuse, or interacting with a colleague is the most stressful thing in your life.

Mend It: Personality conflicts with bosses or coworkers are often what make a job toxic. You can’t change the way they act, but “you can change the way the situation makes you feel,” says Alan A. Cavaiola, Ph.D., coauthor. “Many unpleasant workplace behaviors resemble traits of common personality disorders,” he says.

For example, your power-hungry boss or competitive coworker may be a bit of a narcissist. This type has a knack for self-promotion, even if it means co-opting your ideas or, worse, blaming you for her failures. Protect yourself by keeping a paper trail of your work. Though narcissists appear to have strong egos, in reality they’re insecure and thrive on praise. Give it to her, and you’ll get along better.

Another common workplace spoiler is the control freak who wants to micromanage how you do your job. Her actions smother you and leave you feeling as if everything is due tomorrow. Get some breathing room by finding out exactly what’s expected of you on a project and what the deadlines are. When the detail queen checks in to see how you’re doing your work, gently remind her that you’ll deliver the work on time (and make sure you do). Don’t be too proud to take a good suggestion. trough. Annoying as it is, detail queens are often right.

It can be excruciating trying to get info or support from an antisocial type. Curt, condescending and often downright rude, loners tend to avoid human contact. So keep your distance; communicate via e-mail o: memo. This gives you a concrete starting point for further questions.

End It: In some cases you may be better off simply quitting your job if you can afford to. You’re the only one who can decide if your situation is so physically
or emotionally harmful that you should walk away, says Cavaiola. A big warning sign is being denigrated or demeaned by your boss every day.

Most often, though, the best strategy is to keep your options open by updating your resume and putting out a few discreet feelers. Spending an hour reviewing your past achievements-both personal and professional-will give you much-needed confidence. Critique your list, pretending you’re looking to hire someone for your job. How do your skills stack up? If you’re lacking in a specific area, concentrate on improving-take a class or find a mentor. Focusing on the future helps bolster your self-esteem while you’re looking around and gets you out of the pit of negativity.

Have you heard people say that if not for customers, work will be a lot smoother? They ask questions for which the answers are so obvious. Or they can find the answers if they will just read the instructions that are provided with the product. They just have to call and ask all kinds of questions and sometimes you are not even the person who is supposed to handle such questions. Are you looking for good reasons that will help you feel better about this?

First thing is if there are no customers, then there is no business. If there is no business then you do not have a job. Does not even matter if yours is not a customer-facing job. Customers are needed. Question now is how you can look at the situation differently so that providing good service to the customers is something that you can be happy doing.

Basic reason, of course, is that you get paid to do the job and providing good customer service is part and parcel of the job. It does help to remind yourself that the organization promptly pays you and it is only fair to deliver your responsibility.

Next reason is that good customer service is the best pre-sales effort for the next purchase by the customer. People go all the way out to run promotions and write great copy to entice customers to buy their products. Nothing though can beat good customer service. There are customers who will repeatedly buy from the same company because they are happy with the service provided.

Good customer service is not about falling over yourself providing everything the customer asks for, but it is providing the customer what they rightfully should get for having bought a product from your company.

There is also a completely personal angle that you can look at where service is concerned. Most people nowadays are conscious of their social responsibilities and like to donate or make contributions to worthy causes. Why not make good customer service as such a contribution? In this case, you also get paid for it. In the words of N. Eldon Tanner, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth”. The moment you can start thinking that service is something that you want to do, then every customer request will be much easier to respond to.

Is it going to be easy? Not all the time. There will be difficult situations but there will also be customers who will be very appreciative of the service that you provide. For those difficult situations, say to yourself that this is why you are paid a salary and just do it. The moment you stop fighting it, handling the situation gets less difficult.
Now, how do you handle difficult situations so that they do not upset you. The best way to handle this is to calmly listen to the customer. Many a time service representatives have a solution even before the problem has been described. Stop to listen first. Then ask clarification questions if necessary before providing the resolution.

Theodore Roosevelt said “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care”. It will do well to remember these words. If you can listen with a sincere desire to help and be happy to help the customer, you will feel good providing service. Some people even enjoy it. In addition, your whole attitude and listening with care will come through and even the customer’s demeanor will change.

Good customer service is not about having a good customer service week once a year. It is about providing good service every day. As you start work daily, if you can accept that your purpose for being there is to respond to customer needs with concern and a desire to help, it will be a lot easier to get through work. You can even start enjoying it.

Remember at a minimum you are getting paid to respond to customer requests. You are also helping to drive more sales from customers because of the excellent service you help provide. Besides this, from a purely personal perspective, you get an opportunity to be of service even without getting out of your normal routine.
Start having a different outlook to providing good customer service. It will make a great difference to how you support your customers and importantly to how good you feel deep inside you.

Almost everyone has heard of blogging these days. Simply put a blog is a web page that is made up of posts and is updated regularly. That is the simple definition however, a blog can be much more then that. If you are starting a business with a small budget then there are so many ways blogging can help.

First, with a click of your mouse you can put your thoughts, sale pitches, articles and various web page links by publishing it on your blog. This is especially great if you have started your business using any type of affiliate marketing. The blog owner registers with any affiliate program of choice and then puts various links, banners and products on the blog site. When visitors click on these links and purchase a product, the blog owner is paid a commission for generating the sale. How much easier can that be?

The second way a blog can help in starting your business is that it is a whole lot cheaper then getting web site. You can usually set up a blog site for free. Compare that to buying a domain name and paying for the cost of designing a web site. Add to that the monthly cost of web site hosting and the cost starts adding up real quick. A blog is a great alternative until the money starts coming in from your business.

Third, less technical knowledge is needed so it is easier and faster for the beginner to start on the web. There is no need to learn html or programming because the software is already there for you to use. Also most successful marketers agree that to get traffic to your site you must update the content often and consistently. With a blog you can add or update the content whenever your want without hiring someone else to do it for you.

Also, blogging can give your business an edge over the competition because it is in real time and there is no waiting. Customers and visitors of your blog can easily join in and post their own comments and suggestions to your site and your products. It is a good tool to have testimonials about your product or service on your blog. Also be sure to post answers to any questions or problem in a quick and complete manner. It shows that you like to reach out to prospective customers and you will quickly gain repeat customers and acquire a following. Customers always prefer personalized attention.

In summary, blogging should not be overlooked as a great business tool. It is especially helpful to the beginner internet marketer because it is cheap and it has no boundaries. Add to that your own creativity and you are well on your way to establishing a successful business.

Now that you’ve had a chance to settle into your new supervisory job and become somewhat comfortable, it’s time to start planning for the rest of your career.
It may be hard to think about the rest of your career now that you’ve taken on added responsibilities. But it’s definitely not the time to start coasting.
Succeeding as a supervisor requires a continuous development of your skills.

First, rid yourself of the self-defeating behaviors that keep you from being as effective as you can be. Substitute more effective skills. Success also means upgrading your knowledge of supervision and management principles, practices, and strategies.

Second, examine your performance as a supervisor. Assess which skills you need to improve upon and develop a strategy to do so.
This is your time to plan for improving your supervisory skills and further your career as a supervisor, and potentially, a higher-level manager.
To be practical, no supervisor can hope to attain all the skills attributed to a successful supervisor. However, you can be constantly moving in that direction.

You will want to develop a self-improvement habit throughout your supervisory career. The benefits abound:
• Your credibility with management and employees will improve
• Your promotion potential will increase
• Your self-confidence will be strengthened
• Your contributions to the success of your organization will become apparent to those around you

Fortunately, you can get started now developing that self-improvement habit. You don’t have to wait until you have a year or two under your belt.
Here is a general strategy for supervisory self-improvement:
• Find a mentor
• Assess your supervisory development needs
• Pursue development strategies for increased knowledge and skills
• Track your performance and make adjustments

If your mentor is your supervisor, and you’re able to talk to him/her about your performance, you should get informal and well as formal evaluation of your performance. Seek others’ evaluations as well. Even consider talking to your employees about your performance.
Using your mentor and others to assess your performance, you can get a good fix on what and how to increase your knowledge and skills. Attend formal training opportunities every chance your get.

By tracking your performance you will see where you need improvement. Continue to assess yourself as a supervisor, devise a plan to improve, and continue monitoring your performance.
Many supervisors fail to develop a mental or a written plan to improve themselves. That’s unfortunate. With a little forethought, they could constantly be improving their performance as a supervisor.
Doing so will provide for greater opportunities in the future.

When it comes to making money on the internet there is no shortage of ways to do it. Of course if you have a product of your own that is the best place to start. What about if you do not have a product of your own.

Here are a few ways you can sell stuff online with affiliate marketing to make money for yourself.

Affiliate Programs. Getting paid to sell other people’s products is the quickest way to get going that I have found. Affiliate marketing has been around for over 10 years now and many people look at Amazon.com as one of the first companies to sell products this way.
You can make money selling clicks such as with Google Adsense. You can make money selling leads with affiliate programs like Max Bounty. You can make money selling products. One such way is to sell information products like you would find at ClickBank.

Another thing you can do is go do affiliate program directories like AssociatePrograms.com or Commissions Junction where they have complied some of the best products to sell in one place.
One way to make money online is to sell memberships. This can be done through both affiliate marketing as well as network marketing. Getting paid over and over for making one sale is called residual income.

Certainly network marketing also offers some great residual income for repeat business on a monthly basis. Many MLM companies will set up your customers and distributors on auto-ship and the products they order go out like clock work every month. When they do you make a commission every monthly just like clockwork as well.

Back to paid memberships. Products that can be accessed online and offer value to your customer are great to sell. Paid memberships fit this description. Subscriptions on how to run a home business, personal development, paid newsletters on every subject imaginable, website hosting, autoresponders, and just about anything you can think of, offer you a chance to create residual income.
2 tier programs where you get paid on the sales of people you recruit work great for paid membership programs as well. Of course network marketing falls into this category and can even be better because you can make money every month on the sales of a large group of people.

The key with most paid subscription programs is you make a little bit of money on every sale. The first month this may not amount to much. The second month it can be more. In a year it can be quite a lot. Kind of like compound interest if you know how that works.
Your efforts and your sales compound themselves offering you a great chance to build an income that you could walk away from in a few years.

Can you say that about your current job!

In today’s society we often put a lot of emphasis on how things are done. Present a plan with lofty goals to the board of directors of any company and surely they will ask you how you suppose those goals will be met. Apply for a mortgage and you will be asked to demonstrate how you plan to pay it off. Give a professor the correct answer to a complex question and you might be asked how you arrived at your conclusion. The How is often so predominant that the Why is sometimes completely forgotten. As if the Why is of less importance. Nothing could be further from the truth. Why you want something is infinitely more important than how you think you’re going to achieve it.

To find out what your Why is start with identifying what it is that you want. After all, if you can’t visualize what you want how could you ever hope to realize it? This seems easy enough but apparently it’s a bit more challenging than one would think. Ask an adult to write down everything they want on a list with a minimum of 50 items and you will find that for most it turns out to be quite difficult. Stating that you want a certain amount of money, want to quit working or just want a bigger car than your neighbor can cause people to experience discomfort. After all it may make them appear greedy or lazy and that’s not generally considered positive. So they try to come up with something that’s socially acceptable and in doing so make what they want subject to the opinions of others. Kids on the other hand have no problem here. They’ll come up with 50 items and more in no time, listing things you didn’t even know exist. They don’t worry about what others may think of it, whether it makes them look greedy, lazy or whatever. All they know is that they want it.

After you have identified what it is you want, then you get to the Why. Why would you want all those things? Again, kids have the upper hand here. They’ll be quick to point out why they want it all: mostly the fun they will have and the popularity it will give them. Ask an adult why they want something and you’ll enjoy watching the expression on their face. You’ll see them searching for an answer. Why would you want to be rich? Why would you want to quit working? What would you do if you no longer had to go to a job every day? You may decide you want a bigger house than anyone in your family before you ever had. But what does that do for you? Would you sleep better? Would it make your life better? Or is it because you just love cleaning house all day? Whatever it is, it’s important that you know.

How exactly you plan to achieve your goal is far less important, especially in such an early stage. Too much focus on the How early in the process can have a devastating effect. It could paralyze you. If your financial situation is so bad that you are actually below broke, achieving financial independence can seem so far fetched that reaching it appears impossible. You might sell yourself on the idea that it’s so far out of reach that you couldn’t possibly make it happen in this lifetime. As much as that may seem true at the time, it doesn’t have to become your reality. However in order to get there you will probably have to overcome some serious hurdles. And for that to happen you need a reason to get up and take the necessary action. That reason needs to be strong enough to pull you through the tough times that inevitably will come. That reason is you Why.

History is packed with unbelievable stories of accomplishment. People facing seemingly insurmountable odds who overcame obstacles you wouldn’t believe. Individuals with relentless determination who decided to push on in situations where most people would give up. Why is is that so many people throw in the towel when things don’t go their way and only a small number of people seem to persevere? It’s not because they’re genetically stronger and it’s not because they’ve been dealt a better hand in life. What sets them apart is their Why. That’s what keeps them in the game. Their Why is so strong that whatever comes in their way they will find a way to deal with it. They don’t have all the answers, but what they do have is an inner conviction that they can and will find them.

Working on your Why is one of the best ways to improve the chance of reaching your goals. So make sure that you know what your Why is. Find it and refine it over and over again. Make it so strong that achieving it becomes an absolute must for you and the How will magically reveal itself to you over time.

The intelligence tests were originally designed to help the students lacking in understanding different areas of their curriculum. However, these tests, with the start of World War I initially and the World War II predominantly, became permanent feature of selection in army. With the passage of time, they are considered the main psychological tools to measure your intelligence and predict your future success and failure.

However, the facts prove otherwise. There are certain limitations which must be considered not only be the employers but also the testers and interpreters of the intelligence tests.

What is Intelligence?
Go to any quality search engine and search for definition of intelligence. You would be surprised to know that every turned up page shall give a different definition for the same entity. Even the psychologists have failed to reach on agreement upon the meanings of intelligence. The psychological testing industry is developing new tools every day to measure your intelligence. When you ask them about meanings of intelligence, they try to simplify things by saying that whatever their developed intelligence tests measure is intelligence.

You cannot go anywhere with such kind of definitions of intelligence. You can argue that when the testing industry doesn’t have any specific definition of intelligence, how can they measure the same.
But intelligence tests are the only known tools so far to measure your fitness for a job.

Intelligence Test Results VS Success
The psychologists interpret your future success by following your results. You know intelligence tests are used in the educational institutions throughout the world. If the intelligence test could have such a capability to measure your future success, then all children having high IQ score could go to top. But the situation is otherwise.

The studies have proven that majority of the successful people are categorized by the intelligence tests as average people. It proves at least one thing; the intelligence test score can’t provide a reliable criteria to predict your future success.

Intelligence Tests VS Emotional Stability
Furthermore, the intelligence tests are incapable to measure your depths, strengths and qualities relating to your emotional stability. They also fail to measure your ethical, social and aesthetic qualities which play very important role in development of your personality.

Intelligence Tests VS Environment
Most of the intelligence tests are built by keeping in view a constant factor ‘g’ which they believe as a constant from your birth to your death. They often follow model of intelligence which is generated from inheritance. They tend to ignore different environmental factors such as your educational background, family history, local culture and traditions. You know these environmental factors play very important roles in defining your future and success rate in different areas.

Conclusion
The intelligence tests are good tools to make comparative statements of the smartness of candidates which they were exposed to testing. However, the testers and interpreters should take a lot of precautionary measures before they predict future success of a candidate. They should use such modules which can measure maximum areas of a personality before rejecting him for a particular job.

MLMs are in the business of making money. They (with very few exceptions) could not care less if you succeed. In fact they want you to fail, it’s good for present and future business.
How can this be? Logic says that if they have more members, they make more money. Well, let’s look at how they operate.

The MLM makes money by keeping the difference between membership fees and the commissions paid out. The best member for the MLM is one that is signed up by the MLM itself. Because there are no commissions paid out. So the MLM does a lot of advertising for itself to get a huge top line where they don’t pay out any commissions.

The next thing they do is make it difficult to qualify to earn commissions. Examples: your first two sales go to your sponsor (probably the MLM); you have to sponsor two new members every month to stay qualified; you have to sell a certain amount of product each month to stay qualified; you have to sponsor five members to start getting commissions.
So you have to do a great selling job while competing, not only with other MLMs, but also with the MLM you joined!

Let’s look at the situation where you have to sponsor five members to receive commissions. Assume that the monthly membership is $50. You join and pay $50, and since you got in early, there is great enthusiasm for the MLM, so you sponsor 4 new members. That’s great for the MLM because they now have 5 members paying in $50, and NO commissions going out. In the second month there is still great enthusiasm so your downline sponsors 4 each, but that 5th one is really hard to get because you are now competing with your MLM, your own downline, and all the other MLMs out there, for a new member.

So, there’s you and your downline, 17 people strong, sending $850 per month to the MLM and getting nothing in return.
Now pretend that there are 100 like you that joined the MLM. Now the MLM is getting $85,000 per month and paying out $0 in commissions. It’s a license to print money.
Since you only need one more member to start earning commissions, you are likely to stay with it for another month, so the MLM makes more money. When you do quit, the MLMs make it your fault, which actually inspires you to try again with another MLM. After all, it’s a piece of cake to find just 5 people, especially with all the help the MLM gave you.

So you join another MLM, which is probably run by the same guy that ran the other one. So, you lose money again.

How do you stop the slide?
• Find an MLM with a real product that is appealing to a lot of people.
• Find an MLM with a product that you like and can get excited about.
• Find an MLM that pays commission on EVERY sale that you make.
• Find an MLM that provides true assistance in sales.
• Find an MLM that pays out a large commission, 60-80%

And the best way to avoid wasting all your money on MLMs is to become an affiliate for products that you like and use. That’s right, the advice from this author is to avoid MLMs entirely.
The only way to make big money in an MLM is by being able to bring in a large following from your own lists. Building that list, and getting people to trust you is best left to another article.

There are however, a couple of things you need to know before you’ll be able to generate significant money from Google’s Adsense or any of the lesser known context advertising systems.

First on this list is “original content”. Do not fall into the trap of obtaining private label content for use on your context advertising site and using it without truly making it yours. This cannot be stressed enough. In order to get the biggest benefit from your private label purchases, you must re-write the content to make it unique. The search engines love unique content and it makes absolutely no sense to purchase the right to re-write the content, making it your very own, and then not exercise that right. There are so many people who buy private label rights and then do nothing with them. One of your objectives must be to make your content stand out from the crowd. The search engines will reward you with a higher ranking. This will translate into more visitors and more clicks on your ad links.

That brings us to another issue that you must not forget about: traffic generation. You could have the best looking site on the world wide web, but if you get zero traffic you will not make any money from it. Like it or not, traffic generation is something that you must work at to be successful in content publishing. Sure, at some point you should be able to count on getting regular traffic from the search engines, but how long will that take? In the beginning, you will need to drive any traffic that you get to your site. Traffic doesn’t just magically appear. It takes some hard work, but in the end the payoff can be significant.

Traffic generation can be accomplished in two ways, free traffic or paid traffic. Free traffic generation methods include link exchanges with similar sites, signature lines in emails or forum posts, free classified ad sites and many more. Paid traffic includes sites where a specific amount of website visitors can be purchased. Be very cautious about using paid traffic sites as these sites may send traffic that is untargeted and therefore potentially unresponsive. It’s obvious that the kind of visitor you want is someone who is interested in the content on your site. Although this is obvious, it needs to be stressed. Random web surfers who land on your site are very unlikely to spend much time reading your content or clicking the ads. The kind of visitor you want is someone who is actively looking for the kind of content you have published. These visitors are very likely to click on relevant ads and that is one of your main objectives as a content publisher.

Probably the hardest part of setting goals is the first step of actually deciding to take action! The main hurdle that most people face is the incorrect assumption that goals are only for business or sales-minded people. The reality is everyone subconsciously sets goals throughout their day. There are always occasions where something has to be done at a particular time or place.Simple examples could be getting up at a certain time in order to be at work, or to meet with a friend for a leisure activity.

After years of sales meetings, one small statement made me realize that this process is as natural as breathing. The beauty of having goals is the uniqueness of each one to the person setting the goal. They are very specific to them and their circumstances whether in the area of business, financial, personal or spiritual.

The most important part initially, is to write them down. Having the goals written down gives incredible power and focus to your efforts.
Aim for something that will stretch you whilst remaining achievable. If the goal is achieved too easily it is not high enough to make any significant change in your life and needs to be adjusted. On the other hand, if you consistently miss the goal, re-evaluate and consider setting it a little lower as you will probably get discouraged and give up. The aim is to keep growing, and moving into a more satisfactory position for your circumstances.
The goal should be as specific as possible with a benefit of attaining it. Another good idea is to also have the result of not reaching the goal. This will strengthen your resolve to take the necessary action.
As you obtain the levels that you have set for yourself always include a small reward at each point. This will only need to be a small treat in the beginning, such as a meal out or a weekend vacation.

Remember that these changes will not take place overnight and there will be a period of time when nothing seems to be happening. This is why the goals need to be detailed and as specific as possible with a consequence and a benefit.
Allow some time on a daily basis to educate yourself on how to make the necessary adjustments in your life. This could include listening to a cd or reading a book on motivation etc. There is an enormous amount of resources available to anyone looking for help in this area.
A simple method to start with could be one goal in the main areas of life to be achieved in one month, six months, one year and five years. Break that down further into a daily, weekly and monthly plan.
To summarize. Write them down, be specific, allow time. Review and adjust on a regular basis. Stay focussed and disciplined to achieve all you desire.

Whatever your business or specialism, whether you are in mail order, direct mail or a small or medium sized on or offline business, it is important to know the strategies for keeping your business alive so that your business survives economic recessions, peaks and troughs in market trends, external competition, changes in legislation. At any point where the cash flow in the business, whatever its size starts to diminish the money management of the business needs to be scrutinised and managed tightly.

Some of the things that you can and should do to protect yourself from unnecessary expenditure is to prioritise what is essential for the survival of the business. Lets face it we have all made purchases based on emotion and sudden impulse, bought things that we did not really need, been responsive to the flamboyancy of the advertising salesperson. A few hours later, or even a day or so later, we realize that we have committed hundreds of dollars of business funds for an item or service that is not essential to the success of our business.

It is important to have a company action plan to ensure the survival of your business, some companies set up advisory boards or have a network of outside professional people sometimes known as a power circle which will act as an advisory board during times of difficulty. It is important to hire an outside accountant or accounting firm to figure out key cash flow information like return on your investments, turnover of your accounts, debtors and creditors and ways to keep expenditure to a minimum. A board such as this should meet once a month and present reports and financial analysis for the business. If you are a sole proprietor the board may be just made up of yourself and your accountant, for limited companies this could be the company directors, the company secretary and accountants. Whatever your structure it is essential to keep your hands on the wallet of your business!! No formal decisions need to be made either at the board meeting or as a result of them, but the meeting will provide a great deal of information and action plans which you can use in your business.

Credit control is essential to the cash flow of the business and is often overlooked, many businesses concentrate in generating new sales which is great, but if there is no money in the pot to finance the man power, the purchases needed for the business, etc then the business will not survive for long, therefore it is a necessity to ensure that your customers are paying their accounts on time, if not, you need to speak with these people, and follow a strategy and action plan to ensure that debts are paid to you in a timely manner. Do not be scared of the telephone, talking to your customers is essential to any business, if you can work with your customers and work out a payment plan then that will benefit you both. If you do not speak to the customer, you cannot find out what the problem is - maybe they were not happy with your service or product, maybe they cannot pay, whatever the reason unless you speak to them you will not find out why the have not paid and there is more chance that the payment may take longer to come than if you had spoken to them, or it may not come at all!

Other things to consider:
Know which direction your business is going, have a 3/5/10 year action plan, be aware on a day to day basis your progress, be aware of your competitors and understand what they are doing, practise good money management.

In order to survive with a small business, regardless of the economic climate, surround yourself with smart professionals and practise sound business management at all times.

As a matter of fact, you can spare only forty minutes to get the article written, edited and slotted into place.
Breaking it down, that means you pretty much have to write the first draft in around 30 minutes. Not a lot of time - especially if you don’t consider yourself to be much of a writer. The good news is that it can be done - and done well. Here’s how to generate a 400-500 word article in a short time.

1. Turbo-Outlining.
Give yourself 5-10 minutes for this part of the process. If you already have a topic in mind, you’re in front. If not, you have exactly 90 seconds to decide. Presumably you understand where your readers are coming from (if not, you’re in big trouble.) Use that 90 seconds to jot down words or phrases that summarize anything that is likely to be causing them a problem. Naturally this needs to be a problem that YOU can help solve in your article.

From this list, choose the topic that appeals to you most. Now - in three and a half minutes - it’s time to outline the article. Use these headers to guide you:
a. State the problem - and promise a solution. (Just jot down quick notes at this stage.)
b. Outline the process for solving the problem. Divide this into 3-5 logical steps. Label each step (this will become a sub-heading in your article).
c. Jot down points you want to make in your conclusion. This can be advice on how to ensure that the problem doesn’t recur, or offer links to resources that can help. End on a positive note that leaves the reader feeling glad that he read your advice.

2. Speed-Writing Your First Draft.
Allow 20-25 minutes to write the first draft. Spend an extra few minutes on the first paragraph. This is where your reader will decide whether or not to continue reading. Your job is to show that you understand exactly what the problem is and to sound confident that you can help them solve it. Don’t use long-winded sentences or ramble on about how awful it is - just get to the point. By the end of the first half-dozen sentences, your reader needs to feel keen to read on and find out the solution.

Each of your 3-5 sub-headings should clearly indicate what the following paragraphs are about. Remember that many readers skim-read an article to see if it’s worth reading. Look at the words you’ve chosen - can you rephrase these headings to make the whole process sound simpler or faster?

Under each sub-heading, write two or three paragraphs on the part of the problem-solving strategy you are outlining. Since you are writing this quickly, it is likely that you will automatically adopt a forthright, casual tone. If you find yourself writing in overly formal language, stop and reconsider. The best ‘how to’ articles use simple language and everyday terminology. Make it all as easy as possible for your reader to follow.

The ending is just as important as opening paragraph. It’s vital not to let the article fizzle out in a weak conclusion. You need to leave your reader feeling inspired, energized and confident that they can follow your advice and fix the problem. You can:

- tell them how much time/energy/money they will save by following your advice
- share a ’secret’ of some kind that will help them move on to the next step (be more successful, save even more time, etc)
- point them at further help or resources. (These can be provided by you and your web site, or by others who have a level of expertise.)

3. Tweak and Polish.
After thirty minutes you should have an excellent basis for your article. If you can afford to take fifteen minutes out at this stage for a cup of coffee or a quick walk, do so. It’s always better to take a break before editing your work. If not, just start reading it from the beginning. Check for these things:

a. Spelling and grammar. Your computer should do most of the work here, but a computer can miss typos or offer strange advice when it comes to grammar. You need to read it through yourself for flow and overall impact.
b. Wordy sentences or phrases. Weed them out!
c. Badly-phrased advice. If a sentence doesn’t flow, write it again. Think of how you’d explain to someone else in a casual conversation. Does your writing reflect this?
d. Missing steps. When you’re familiar with a process, or trouble-shooting, it’s all too easy to leave out a step or a small but vital piece of information. Run over the whole process in your mind to make sure you haven’t left anything out.

Now, you should have a finished article that will prove both interesting and helpful to many of your readers. At worst, it will be competent. At best, it will surprise you with what you can achieve in a short time!

This is a time of year when many businesspeople and women simply shiver in their boots. Your Worker’s Compensation audit is about to be performed by the insurance company, or worse, the State Fund. Instead of throwing up your hands and sending the auditor to your accountant, you can do it yourself. Why would I commit such a hideous act, you ask?
The answer, simply put, is that you know your business better than anyone else, or at least you should. After 30 years of seeing the results and correcting them of fouled up audits, let me brief you on the most common errors. Errors that if you were present, would never have occurred in the first place.

This should be prefaced by saying that this expertise is based on the New York system of Workers Compensation. But understand that whatever else can be said of New York, it has lead the country in many insurance related areas for decades and is highly regarded nationwide in those respects. That regard has persuaded many states to follow the NY Insurance Departments lead in countless areas. And since this article will speak to general problem areas, your state’s guidelines should be very similar, if not identical.

To start off business people should understand what is being sought. Obviously, payroll, but beyond that an auditor may ask for a general ledger. From the general ledger they will be looking for payments to others that could be construed as payroll. For instance, did you have any repairs done and made payment for them to an individual? If that is the case, you should have a certificate of insurance on file, so that you may exhibit that the repair person was indeed a business and did have their own Workers Comp insurance. If you do not, that payment may be added to your payroll under a class commensurate with the work performed. Unless you do not want to pay, for example, the Workers Comp rate for roof repairs that were performed, get a certificate of insurance from the contractor. If you pay a corporation, this may not be an issue, Workers Comp wise, but you should still get a certificate of insurance from contractors who perform work for you anyway, for your own protection.

Probably the biggest error you will save yourself from over paying for is misclassification of payroll. Check your rates for each type of job your employees perform to be prepared and guide any payroll you can to the lowest rated job. No, do not lie, but there are many gray areas and try to take advantage of them where you can. A clerical employee rate is about $.40 per hundred of payroll. A labor worker, depending on the job will be several times that. You do not want a bookkeeper salary mixed in to the wrong area. If you still have your accountant work with the auditor, make sure they know what job position each person occupies. It can cost you literally thousands of dollars.
Separate your overtime payroll. Be able to identify it clearly and tell the auditor which is which. The extra you pay in overtime should not be charged for, only the straight pay.
While there are many other specific instances in which errors may occur in these typically account for 90%+ of the problems faced in a Worker’s Compensation audit. If you can be aware of these sorts of issues you will face, you can save money on your premiums year after year, whether your accountant handles it, or you do.

Any given day, thousands of people look to get out of the rat race and work from home. In addition, many people want to get a home-based business started so badly that they do not always make wise choices in choosing a work from home opportunity. As a result, many fail miserably. This, of course, does not need to happen. It is possible to pick a viable business opportunity. As discussed in a previous article, there are five top reasons many home-based businesses will never work. Let’s discover six additional reasons why, if people are not careful, their home business could fail.

Reason 1: Most new opportunities have no way to help people make large amounts of money. Many opportunities will give great ideas for making money, but then leave people out in the cold by having them do everything on their own. There simply is not a good support system. Nobody should be a part of a business opportunity such as this.

Reason 2: Unfortunately, some home business opportunity promoters will take people’s money and run. There are too many fly-by-night companies out there that will not hesitate to scam people. The problem is their promotions sound just as good as everybody else’s. To avoid this, home-based business opportunity seekers need to be very skeptical about each business opportunity they are presented, examine them carefully, and then make an informed decision.

Reason 3: Some home-based business opportunities have people work long hours for little pay. People end up getting burned out, tired, frustrated, and eventually quit. Why become part of a work at home opportunity that is like a regular job?

Reason 4: Many business opportunities offer products nobody wants. Never, ever try to market anything people could care less about. Everyone who tries to do this is doomed to fail. Always remember that the market for your products or services comes first, and the product or service must offer something exciting that people want. In addition, it is best that the company that offers the product or service has a proven marketing system that automatically sells to people the exciting product or service.

Reason 5: Many home-based business opportunities force people to become salespeople. Because things are not set up right, people are forced to face rejection constantly. Avoid this type of business since most people hate to sell!

Reason 6: Most work at home opportunities pay small sums of money and no residual income. This is a recipe for disaster! If people sell low-ticket items that don’t sell for very much money, it’s going to be almost impossible for them to obtain financial freedom and to become rich. Never become part of any home-based business opportunity that forces one to sell tons of items just to make a decent profit.

So, there you have it-six additional reasons why many home-based businesses will fail. Carefully look for potential problems with any home-based business opportunity, make sure it does not meet the criteria for any of these six problems outlined, and then make an informed choice.
